Graduands from the University of Jos have been charged to make the best
of the training received from University while remaining good ambassadors of the institution wherever life’s journey takes them.
Deputy Registrar and Head of Division, Information, Publications, Public Relations and Protocol Division of the University of Jos, Abdullahi Abdullahi stated this at a Dinner and Award Night organized by the Department of Mass Communication which took place at Ornate Pavilion, opposite Saint Molumba College, Zaria Road, Jos.
According to Abdullahi, Mass Communication is a profession that gives practitioners the opportunity to communicate to a wide audience therefore charged graduands from the Department to be focused, dedicated and determined as to be found worthy in character and in learning which the certificate they have earned confers on them.
He advised the 20018/2019 set of graduands from the University’s Mass Communication programme to use the knowledge acquired to be productive and soar higher rather than being intimated by the little challenges they would face while practicing the profession.
Abdullahi who received a Merit Award as AMCOMS Most Outstanding P.R Practitioner of the Year from the UNIJOS Chapter responded on behalf of the other Awardees and appreciated the organizers for recognizing their service to the Media Industry and Humanity in general, pledging to be of better Service to the lager society.
Earlier, the Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Jos, Dr. Taye Obateru represented by a Lecturer in the Department, Dr. Godfrey Danaan said the Dinner/Award Night was first of its kind and was organized to thank God for many feats recorded by the Department during the of the year. Dr. Obateru commended the Students for identifying with people who have been contributive to the progress of the Department and celebrating with the 2018/2019 set of graduands as they round up their studies.
Others who received various categories of awards included the Director of News and Current Affairs Department, Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC), Mr. Yakubu Taddy; NTA Jos Network Centre as Best News Station of the Year; Fidelity Bank Plc as Best Partnering Bank.
In the Students category, awards were presented among which were Best Student of the Year, Best Female Student of the Year, Best Dressed Student of the Year.b
The event featured musical performances by various artist and presentation of plagues to the Awardees.
