UNIJOS INDUCTS 43 NEW SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS
The University of Jos, Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Faculty of Natural Sciences, has inducted Forty Three (43) new graduates into the Science Laboratory Technology profession.
Speaking during the Oath taking and Induction Ceremony of new Science Laboratory Technologists, Director-General and Registrar of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Mr. Yemi Gbadegesin, represented by Mr. Gberinda James Sa’andor, a Governing Council Member of the Institute, congratulated the Inductees on their successful graduation and welcomed them into the Science Laboratory Technology profession. Mr. Gbadegesin said the Science Laboratory Technology profession is a grand and dynamic one, hence the need for the Inductees to align their skills, technical competences and training in providing laboratory services. He said for the Inductees to excel and be successful, they must be scientifically innovative, as the field is very wide. He therefore implored them to put into practice the knowledge and skills they had acquired during the period of their academic pursuits. The NISLT boss admonished the Inductees to be good ambassadors of the profession by projecting its good image and adhering strictly to its Code of Ethics as they undertake their practice for the service of the nation.
Mr. Gbadegesin acknowledged the effort of the University under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, for producing new sets of Science Laboratory Technologists annually. He disclosed that of all the One Hundred and Fifty Three (153) Universities in the country, only eleven (11) Universities offer the Science Laboratory Technology Programme, and University of Jos is one of them with outstanding performances.
Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Nelson Ochekpe, congratulated the Inductees for their resilience and being found worthy in character and in learning. He said Science Laboratory Technology is a vital programme necessary for achieving a country’s development goals. The Vice-Chancellor charged the newly inducted Technologists to be scientifically innovative saying if Scientists fail, there would be no new discoveries nor new ideas for development to thrive. Professor Maimako advised the Science Laboratory Technologists to make good use of the laboratories at their disposal irrespective of ownership, noting that the best things of life are often free and sharable, and human beings all need each other to survive.
Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Professor Georgina Mwansat, represented by Deputy Dean, Dr. Godfrey Kumleng, urged the Inductees to be good ambassadors of the University as they serve humanity. She advised them to always remember to share their benefits with their alma-mater and also ensure the display of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
Also speaking, Head of Department, Science Laboratory Technology, Dr. John Goshit, thanked Management of the University for the continues support to the Department, and the National Universities Commission (NUC), for fully accrediting the Science Laboratory Technology Programme in the University.
A representative of the Inductees, Dishon Charibu Hurdson, thanked God for sustaining and preserving their lives. He also thanked their Parents and Lecturers of the Department for guiding them through the Programme and ensuring that their needs were always met, and for grooming and shaping them to become budding professionals.
Highpoints of the Ceremony were the presentation of a Dissecting Microscope and a Refrigerator to the Science Laboratory Technology Department by the Inductees, and award of excellence given to the three best graduating students of the Department including Dishom Charibu Hurdson with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.36, Abutu Augustine Ifubulochi with CGPA 4.28 and Grace James Subana, CGPA 3.53.
