UNIJOS ACQUIRES NEW LIAISON OFFICE AND GUEST HOUSE IN LAGOS
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako says his administration is focused on undertaking only legacy projects that would outlive his tenure in office. Professor Maimako explained that infrastructural and social welfare projects that add value to the system would receive priority attention under his administration.
The Vice-Chancellor was speaking during the handing over ceremony of the newly acquired and remodelled University of Jos Lagos Liaison Office and Guest House Phase One in Ikeja, Lagos State.
According to Professor Maimako, it was a privilege that such a property would be acquired during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor and commended the project Contractor and the University’s Directorate of Physical Facilities, who worked as the project Consultants, for an excellent job execution despite some challenges. Maimako lamented the conduct of some people within the system who are only interested in discouraging leaders from taking initiatives noting, such does not augur well for a system requiring rapid development.
The Vice-Chancellor further expressed disappointment at Contractors who often close down project sites as a negotiating tactic for securing payments for jobs yet to be executed and praised the Contractor who handled the Lagos Liaison Office project for using his resources to complete the project pending payment by the University. Professor Maimako also lauded the cooperation of Staff of the University’s Lagos Liaison Office and others who contributed to the acquisition and renovation of the property. He advised them to ensure that the services provided at the Guest House are up to the requisite standard to withstand any competition.
Speaking while handing over the project to the University authorities, Managing Director of the Contracting Firm, Messrs Valentino Resources, Mr Obinna Udeh appreciated the University for providing them the opportunity to undertake such an impacful project. Mr Udeh said they had embarked on the project based on trust and raised funds from private sources to execute the job due to its strategic importance to the University. He assured that the company is ready to handle more projects for the University and appealed for speedy payment for the job already completed.
Director of Physical Facilities, University of Jos, Arch. (Mrs) Halima Auta, who gave a brief history of the project, confirmed that the property located at Number 14 Olaniyi Street, Julie Estate, Clay Bus Stop, Oregun Ikeja, had been in a dilapidated state when it was purchased by the University. Arch. Auta who was represented by a Staff of the Directorate, Arch. Amos Tela, said through painstaking and diligent work, they were able to make the property not only habitable, but also a modern and attractive edifice. The Director revealed that the property is a one storey building comprising a Living Room with Dining Area, Kitchenette, and Nine Fully Air Conditioned Bedrooms among other facilities. Auta observed that the Contractor completed the project ahead of the eight-week completion period.
