University of Jos Plateau Forum has donated relief materials to some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at one of its camps at the Institute of Mining and Geo-Sciences, Anguldi, Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area. The IDPs numbering over four hundred comprised mostly children, the aged and women from Gashish Village in Barkin Ladi and Shonong in Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Leading the delegation, Chairman of the Forum, Professor Noel Wannang, said thegesture was a token to assurethe IDPs that they share in their pains and to let them know that the Plateau Forum in the University of Jos stands with them at this trying moment, describing their situation as pathetic but expressed confidence that God would intervene in the shortest possible time.
Wannang used the opportunity to thank Godand the organizers of the camp for their kindness and willingness to help the displaced people put their lives back together and move on. He advised the IDPs not to wallow in self pity but see this as a challenge to improve their lives.
Responding, Coordinator of the IDP Camp, MrAlambaDakat Jock,thanked the University of Jos Plateau Forumfor the show of love and support in their moment ofneed.
MrAlamba said the victims were left helpless which gave birth to the IDP Camp having suffered attacks in their villages on Monday 25th June, 2018 resulting in children who were rendered orphans, the aged, men and women who had lost manyof their family members, being sheltered there.
He used the opportunity to thank the Federal and Plateau state Governments through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) as well as public spirited Organizations and individuals who donated in one way or another to the Camp. He also called on well-meaning groups and Individuals to support the IDP Camp for the sake of children, aged and vulnerable.
