106 new Pharmacists have graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Jos and have been inducted by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).
Speaking at the 42nd Induction Ceremony of the newly qualified Pharmacists, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sabastian Maimako stressed the need for all Health Professionals to eschew competition among themselvesand to complement one another as they all have important roles to play in Health Care Delivery in Nigeria.
Professor Maimako admonished the newly inducted Pharmacists to help curb the menace of drug abuse which is fast eating deep into the fabric of the society. He charged the PCN to enforce the penalties on illicit activities of Pharmacies, Patent and Proprietary Medicine vendors throughout the country. He congratulated the newly inducted Pharmacists for their hard work and diligence and their parents for their support both financially and morally while their wards were in school.
Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, Jacob Kolawole congratulated the inductees and admonished them to make professionalism, self-confidence, integrity and the fear of God their watchword. Professor Kolawole said the time had come for the inductees to study to excel as Pharmacists and not for grades. He informed the inductees that the World Health Organization’s (WHO) essential, minimum and common expectations of them as Pharmacists are to be Care-Givers, Decision Makers, Communicators, Life- Long Learners, Leaders and Teachers.
Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm. NurudeenElijah Mohammed who was represented by the Director, Education and Training, Dr. Anthony Idoko, congratulated the inductees for their hard work and determination. He charged the new inductees to be of the best behaviour while practising and to stick to the ethics of the profession.
Highpoint of the ceremony was oath-taking by the Inductees and the award of prizes and certificates to those who had excelled in various courses in Pharmacy.
Responding on behalf of the inductees, Pharmacist UdoguChidiogoLoveth thanked the University Management for providing the Faculty with the requisite learning facilities. Pharmacist Udogu also thanked Staff of the Faculty for imparting them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the 21st Century and their parents for their financial and moral support.
Librarian of the University of Jos, Dr. Stephen Akintunde who spoke on behalf the parents of the newly inducted Pharmacists, acknowledged that the University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been consistent in the quality of graduates it produces. He expressed delight that the Faculty has maintained its integrity as a professional Faculty without any hint of compromising standards. Dr.Akintunde congratulated the inductees and charged them to go out into the world and do the University and their parents proud.
