NEWLY MATRICULATED STUDENTS CHARGED TO BE DISCIPLINED AND DEDICATED
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, has charged new Students of the University to be disciplined and dedicated to their studies in line with the University’s Motto of “Discipline and Dedication”. Professor Maimako advised the Students during the University’s Matriculation and Oath taking ceremony for the 2017/2018 Academic Session held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Bauchi Road Campus.
The Vice-Chancellor said available records indicated that 35,124 Students chose the University as their first Choice in the 2017/2018 Academic session, out of which only about 8,000 Students were offered admission into the various Degree Programmes in the University. While congratulating the Students for being found suitable for admission into the University, he asked them to count themselves lucky to have been so admitted.
Professor Maimako also advised the Students to accept any course offered to them as a means to help them fulfill their destiny. According to him, all courses offered by the University are of equal importance and add value to the society. He reiterated that if Nigeria must progress, all professions in the various spheres of life must thrive.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the University is constrained by infrastructural deficit and must adhere to the prescribed quota for admission based on its carrying capacity. He encouraged the new students to strive hard and distinguish themselves in their various disciplines and to create positive image for themselves.
Professor Maimako used the occasion to caution the Students and parents to be careful of scammers and cheats during the registration process. He urged the new students to shun all forms of social ills in the University such as drug addiction, alcoholism, cultism, indecent dressing among others, as the University seriously frowns at these.
Earlier, the Deans of the 13 Faculties in the University presented the new Students to the Vice-Chancellor for Matriculation.
The Registrar, University of Jos, Mr Monday Danjem, administered the oath of Matriculation on the new Students, and asked them to adhere strictly to the oath, as any student found wanting would be sanctioned appropriately.
