In the effort to sustain a robust relationship with the University of Jos, Management of the Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust Newspaper titles in Nigeria has paid a courtesy visit on Management of the University.
Receiving the delegation, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako said promoting research and making it more accessible through media platforms is now the best practice. Professor Maimako observed that media visibility increases the chances of an Institution having a global outreach where its research works could be cited by peers and the wider research community. This in turn could help enhance the impact of such research work and allow the University build better reputation for itself.
The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Nelson Ochekpe congratulated Media Trust Ltd for emerging as the best Newspaper of the year 2016 while its Editor was chosen as the best Editor of the year by the Nigeria Media and Merit Award (NMMA). He however challenged them to equally compete with other international Media outfits which according to him would help them remain relevant in the industry. The Vice-Chancellor lauded the new platforms being rolled out by the media giant noting that these would really improve the reading habits of Students and the society at large.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Abhay Desai said they were in the University to explore additional ways of collaboration with the University to achieve maximum utility of its output. Mr. Desai who is also the Chief Operating Officer of Media Trust Ltd described University of Jos as a renowned University and having enjoyed its patronage for some time now, decided to pay the Management a courtesy visit. He promised the University a better deal in their partnership considering the fact Media Trust Ltd has a very wide coverage. Mr. Desai pledged they would provide the University library with digitized copies of their newspapers from inception to date and other academic publications. According to him, they would key into the ‘Operation Beauty from Ashes’ campaign to support the rebuilding of the burnt library. He equally promised to work with his technical team to provide the online views of the newspapers on the Unijos website.
