The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Seddi 
Sebastian Maimako has disclosed that the Federal Government has 
awarded the sum of about N729m through the Tertiary Education 
Trust Fund (TETFUND) for the renovation of the University’s burnt 
Library at the Naraguta Campus. Professor Maimako made this 
known in his office when a delegation from the Federal University of 
Technology, Minna led by the University Librarian, Dr. Alhassan 
Jibril Attahiru paid him a courtesy call.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Federal University of 
Technology, Minna for its outstanding gesture of solidarity in the 
donation of 148 titles of 458 volumes of books to the University of 
Jos.
Professor Maimako who was represented by the University of Jos 
Librarian, Dr. Stephen Akintunde appreciated Management of FUT 
Minna for the assistance, describing it as an encouraging act of 
camaraderie. He noted that the value of true friends are found when 
you are in need and assured the team that the books presented 
would be properly utilized, adding that the act would be recorded in 
the roll of honour being compiled by the University.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that over sixty percent of the Library 
resources of the University was burnt down during the inferno 
affecting six Faculties and several Departments.
Earlier, Dr. Alhassan Jibril Attahiru, said that the incidence of the 
burnt Library in Unijos was a colossal loss not only to Unijos, but to 
Nigeria as a whole. He described the Library as the custodian of the 
culture of every University, since the historical experience and 
values of the system are recorded in books, journals, magazines 
and other library materials.
Dr. Attahiru was enthused that they are also part of the effort to 
rebuild the burnt Unijos Library and recalled that four (4) Staff of 
FUT Minna had recently received practical training in the University 
of Jos Library where they had benefitted a lot.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of the books on various 
subjects and a letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor of FUT Minna, 
Professor Musbau Adewumi Akanji.
