The University of Jos is now wearing a new look. This follows the completion of two (2) road projects which now grant easier access to various areas around the University’s Naraguta Campus. The projects have also expanded the roads network linking the different facilities at the Campus with each other.
Taking over the road projects from the Project Contractors, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, expressed satisfaction with the quality and timely delivery of the work done. Professor Maimako said the Access Road linking the Econometric Laboratory situated at the Faculties of Management Sciences and Social Sciences had beautified the landscape around the area thus making the atmosphere more conducive for teaching and learning.
Similarly, while taking over the newly constructed and rehabilitated Academic Loop Road B1 and Access Road to the Faculty of Engineering, Maimako expressed delight that the contractor had completed and delivered the project three (3) months ahead of the schedule, saying it was an unusual feat within the Nigerian context.
The Vice-Chancellor, who named the newly constructed and rehabilitated Academic Loop Road B1 and Access Road as “Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro Road”, said the gesture was in recognition of the magnanimity and generosity of the TETfund Executive Secretary, Professor Suleiman Bogoro who has facilitated numerous projects and infrastructural interventions in the institution.
Earlier, while briefing Principal Officers of the University on the projects, Director of Physical Facilities, Arc. (Mrs) Halima Auta, represented by a Senior Deputy Director, Mr. Adesina Akande, said the Access Road linking the Econometric Laboratory was designed to cover just over 0.23 kilometers but the Contractor had extended it beyond that distance without charging the University for the additional Five Million Naira (N5m) cost incurred.
He said the work comprises of Site Clearance and Earthworks, construction of lined Drain and Access Culverts, laying of Concrete Kerbs, Surface Dressing and Over laying with Asphaltic Concrete among others.
Akande further explained that the rehabilitated Academic Loop Road B1 covers 1.361 kilometers while the constructed Access Road to the Faculty of Engineering is 0.338 kilometers with features including Stone Pitching, Plain In-situ Concrete Walkway, lined Drain and Access Culverts, Concrete Kerbs among others, which were all completed and delivered ahead of schedule.
In their separate remarks, representatives of the Project Contractors, Maren Jonah of Jodalsam Global Limited and Pam Bok of MJD Ventures Limited, both expressed gratitude to the University Administration for the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the institution.
Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Samuel Ocholi who spoke on behalf of the benefitting Faculties, thanked the University Administration for its efforts to ameliorate some of the challenges faced by Staff and Students of the Institution.
