PENCOM ENGAGES UNIJOS STAFF ON CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEME

In order to ensure effective service delivery and smooth operation of pension related matters in the University of Jos, the National Pensions Commission (PENCOM) has organized a one day sensitization workshop for staff of the University.

The workshop which was held at the University Auditorium, Bauchi Road Campus brought together all categories of staff of the University.

In a presentation titled “Overview of the Contributory Pensions Scheme under the Pensions Reform Act (2014)”, Manager, States Operations Department, National Pensions Commission, Mrs Grace Ezeadoikua said the workshop was aimed at making the University staff conversant with the rules, regulations and standards for proper administration of retirement benefits.

Mrs Ezeadoikua explained that the Scheme is committed to addressing pension investment challenges experienced by staff of the University and enumerated the numerous benefits of belonging to the contributory pensions scheme which provides opportunity for contributors to choose pension managers of their choice.

She added that PENCOM has granted license to the Nigerian Universities Pensions Company (NUPEMCO) to operate as a Pensions Fund Administrator hence the need for the University Community to participate.

Registrar of the University of Jos, Chief Monday Danjem who was represented by the Deputy Registrar, Senior Staff Establishment, Mrs Helen Nwachukwu appreciated the Commission for availing the University the opportunity to present some of the challenges staff encounter with their Pension Administrators and encouraged the staff to be proactive in monitoring what will cater for their livelihood after service.

The forum featured a question and answer session anchored by the Senior Manager, National Pensions Commission, Murtala Moddibo who explained the rationale for the Pensions reform and responsibilities of stakeholders among other issues raised.
