Officials of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), University of Jos Branch have called for the improvement of the welfare of members of the Branch by authorities of the University.
The Union made this known when its newly elected officials paid a courtesy visit on the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako in his office.
NASU UniJos Chairperson, Comrade Bitrus Dagwer explained that their visit was to present the newly elected officials of the Branch to the University Management and also table crucial issues affecting the members before the University authorities whom they believe could provide credible solutions to some of their challenges.
Comrade Dagwer appealed for the incorporation of Hazard Allowance into salaries of members, promotion and conversion of qualified members, resolution of the predicament regarding members who subscribed to the land acquired by NASU but were not given their allocations among other issues faced by the union. He described as regrettable a situation where some of their members have remained stagnant on one Grade Level for over fourteen years for some unexplained reasons.
Responding, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako assured the NASU officials that the University Management would never intentionally deprive members of Staff of their entitlements.
He reminded them that the University has policies guiding all its operations including payment of entitlements, stressing that due processes are being adhered to towards the implementation of the Hazard Allowance.
Maimako further said those affected by the issue of promotion should refer to the Scheme and Conditions of Service of the University to be sure of their claim before they can apply for consideration and assured that all legitimate claims would be addressed.
While congratulating members of the new NASU Branch EXCO on securing a second term in office, the Vice-Chancellor promised to look into all their other complaints with a view to finding lasting solutions to them.
It would be recalled that members of the current NASU EXCO are serving their second term in office led by the Chairman, Comrade Bitrus Dagwer after winning re-election, the first time by any Branch EXCO of the Union.
