UniJos Takes over New Administrative/Senate Building As Clergy Challenge Staff to Change Attitude to Work
In a bid to ensure effective service delivery, Authorities of the University of Jos have taken over the new Administrative/Senate Building at the Naraguta Campus of the University.
Taking over the facility from the Project Contractors during an elaborate ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, expressed gratitude to God and all stakeholders for making it possible for the University to take custody of the facility ten years after the contract was awarded.
He lauded the efforts of the Project team while commending them for their patience even when at various intervals they faced a host of challenges capable of truncating the Project.
Professor Maimako appreciated the University’s Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff, Students, the Relocation Committee and other members of the University community for standing by the Administration towards attaining this landmark achievement.
In his remark, University of Jos Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prince Tony Momoh represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Philomena Mutbam, applauded the Vice-Chancellor for piloting the affairs of the University with much determination and encouraged him to do more in the concluding phase of his tenure.
While handing over the building, representative of the Project Consultants, ORBIT Resources Nigeria Limited, Arch. Ishaku Damor, said execution of the project was quite challenging but they remained resolute to ensure that the project was successfully completed. He explained that although the facility was being handed over to the University Authorities, external work was still going on to give the edifice a befitting look.
The Director of Physical Facilities, Architect (Mrs.) Halima Auta explained that the building which was awarded by Federal Government under Capital Appropriation covers 11,950m2 and is divided into five wings containing about 300 Offices including a 400 capacity Senate chamber. Architect Auta further explained that the building is powered by a Transformer, 1000KVA Generator, Solar powered Water Farm, Car Park Spaces and Drive Ways.
Chairman of Relocation Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Grey Goziem Ejikeme appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his bold steps in making sure the facility becomes functional even in the face of challenges. He equally appreciated the leadership of the various Staff Unions and the Students Union Government (SUG) on campus for their unalloyed support towards the progress of the University.
In an exhortation during an Inter-Faith prayer session which featured during the event, the Chaplain, Chapel of Faith, UNIJOS, Professor Ishmael Ogboru, said moving into the new Administrative building without members of Staff exhibiting positive attitude will not yield any better result. Professor Ogboru decried how some staff display negative attitude to work and called for a change to enable the University serve humanity better.
In separate sermons, The Chief Imam, UNIJOS, Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi and the Chaplain, Catholic Chaplaincy, Rev. Father Venatius Anasoh, all cautioned Staff to have a change of attitude to work, urging them to be God fearing at all times for God to bestow His blessings on the institution.
Also speaking, a friend and well-wisher of the University, Chief Felix Akiga expressed happiness for the giant strides taken by the University and made a handsome donation to assist the process of relocating into the new building and pledged to continue to support the University as the need arises.
Registrar of the University, Chief Monday Danjem expressed gratitude to God and congratulated the University for witnessing another milestone under the Administration of Professor Seddi Sebatian Maimako. Chief Danjem extended appreciation to all who graced the occasion.
The event was well attended by dignitaries within and outside the University.
