PRO-CHANCELLOR CHARGES UNIJOS ALUMNI TO GIVE BACK TO THEIR ALMA-MATA
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 13th University of Jos Governing Council, Prince Tony Momoh has called on Alumni of the University to make conscious efforts towards identifying the needs of their alma-mater, with a view to address such needs. Prince Momoh gave this charge during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated A1 Lecture Hall at the Bauchi Road Campus of the University.
Prince Momoh said Alumni Relations exist primarily to service the interest of academic and the physical development of the school community and challenged all Unijos Alumni to take a cue from what the sponsor of the rehabilitated project, Dr. Johnkennedy Opara had done for his alma-mata.
Also speaking at the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako applauded the sponsor for undertaking this very important University project and noted that the project was executed according to the prescribed standards.
The Vice-Chancellor added that University of Jos will continue to be a pace setter and charged Unijos Alumni to always remember to give back to the University especially in its areas of need.
Sponsor of the project and former Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Abuja, Dr. JohnKennedy Opara appreciated the University Authority for creating the environment to enable the project be executed. Dr. Opara explained that he took the initiative because University of Jos is one of the best institutions in the country and deserves better facilities. He stressed that the future of Nigeria depends on its citizens therefore they must take responsibility for safeguarding the future of the country which relies on its youthful population.
Dr Opara advised the Students to work harder so that they may secure more opportunities in life.
Speaking earlier, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Professor (Mrs) Georgina Mwansat expressed gratitude to the sponsor and applauded him for his kind gesture.
The Director, Alumni Relations, Mr Samuel Caleb Mwansat revealed that there were many other commendable interventions from Unijos Alumni either as groups or individuals, but this was one of the most notable individual contributions.
Mr Mwansat enjoined the end users to make good use of the hall and facilities provided.
Goodwill messages were received from the former Governor, Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau North Constituency, Senator (Dr) Jonah David Jang, former Minister of State for Education and Foreign Affairs, Professor (Mrs) Viola Onwuliri, the National President, Unijos Alumni Association, Alhaji Idris Yakubu and President, Students Union Government, Comrade Panshak Pantu who all applauded the wonderful gesture of the sponsor describing him as a man with a brave heart.
High point of the occasion was the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated A1 Lecture Hall which has now been renamed ‘Dr. Johnkennedy Opara (A1) Lecture Hall’ by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Unijos Governing Council, Prince Tony Momoh.
