Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako has appealed to stakeholders in the Nigerian Educational System to intensify their efforts towards ensuring that citizens acquire qualitative education for the betterment of the Nation.
Professor Maimako stated this while receiving a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Education assigned to Monitor and Evaluate Policies, Projects and Programmes approved by Federal Executive Council for implementation when the members visited the University to ascertain the level of its compliance.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme, expressed his appreciation to the Team members, stressing that such visits were important to the host institutions to enable them learn more about the Federal Government’s policy direction and make amendments where necessary.
Professor Maimako stated that for meaningful development to take place, education must be given top priority as was being emphasized by the University of Jos, adding that in areas where the Team finds the Institution wanting, corrections would be made to enable it go back on the right track.
He assured that the Institution will continue to do its best to provide quality education services to all Nigerians.
Earlier in her remarks, the Team Leader, Mrs J. L. Uzor, a Staff of the Educational Planning, Research and Development Department of the Federal Ministry of Education explained that their visit was to enable them assess the status of the various projects the Federal Government had awarded to the institution through TETFund interventions.
Also speaking, a member of the Team from the Special Duties Office (Office of the Secretary to the Government of Federation), Eucharia Ubua explained that they were mandated to carry out the exercise in order to determine the level of work so far undertaken and challenges faced while executing the projects.
Projects identified for evaluation were the University Main Library Complex, Faculty of Social Sciences Building and Faculty of Engineering Building all at the Naraguta Campus.
The Team was conducted round on the inspection exercise the by the Director, Physical Facilities, Architect (Mrs) Halima Auta, the University Librarian, Dr. Stephen Akintunde represented by Dr. Daniel Abubakar and the University Bursar, Ibrahim Alhassan represented by Mr Musa Garpiya.
