The Vice-Chancellor University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako has reiterated the institution’s commitment to encouraging the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in academic development and service delivery.
Professor Maimako stated this when he received a donation of One Hundred and Ten units of Laptop computers with e-learning suites from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), for both Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff of the University.
Professor Maimako who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme, expressed appreciation to the NCC for finding the University worthy of benefitting from the project which he said will go a long way in boosting the Academic and other activities in the Institution and assured that the Laptops will be properly utilized.
While stating that a fair distribution system will be applied in disposing of the computers, the Vice-Chancellor added that they will be put into maximum use to boost academic, administrative and other activities in the University since most teaching, research and supporting activities nowadays require the deployment of e-facilities.
Presenting the Laptops on behalf of the NCC, Mr. Taiwo Adebisi of Zandabad Nigeria Limited who are Consultants to the NCC, said the essence of the donation is to encourage e-learning and research processes as is captured in the programme “School Support Project” being sponsored by the Commission.
Mr Adebisi who stressed that University of Jos is too important to be left out of such a project expressed the NCCs readiness to partner with the University to ensure that the programme records huge success by encouraging the use of ICT in academic development and facilitating easier access to international intellectual resources.
Also present at the ceremony was the Registrar of the University, Mr. Monday Danjem and other Principal Officers.
