University of Jos Re-Awards Contract of Indoor Theatre

UNIVERSITY OF JOS RE-AWARDS CONTRACT OF INDOOR THEATRE

An Indoor Theatre that was initiated and funded by the Late former Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, at the Naraguta Campus of the University of Jos has been re-awarded for completion.

Briefing the Vice-Chancellor on the history and status of the project, the Director of Physical facilities, University of Jos, Architect (Mrs) Halima Auta said the Indoor Theatre was initiated in the year two thousand and ten by then Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma but could not be completed due to paucity of funds.

Arch. Auta said the University Management had to approach the Aliyu Doma Foundation to handover the project to the University towards its completion after the demise of the Principal Donor, Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma. She disclosed that the contract had now been re-awarded to Orbit Resources Nigeria Limited under the NEEDS Intervention Projects in Federal Universities.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako revealed that the Indoor theatre would be named after the deceased and christened ‘’ALIYU AKWE DOMA INDOOR THEATRE’’ in recognition of the passion the former Governor had for Theatre Education during his lifetime.

Maimako charged the Contractors to work diligently and complete the project within the time frame for the students to utilize it accordingly.

Responding, Manager, Orbit Resources Nigeria Limited, Architect Ishaku Damor promised to execute the project within Four months if given the required support.

Highpoint of the event which was attended by Principal Officers of the University and the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Tor Iorapuu, was the signing and presentation of contractual documents by the Vice-Chancellor to the Contractor.
