UNIJOS SEEKS MORE COLLABORATION WITH AFRICAN VARSITIES
Vice Chancellor University of University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako has emphasized the need for collaboration between African tertiary institutions in the area of research.
The Vice Chancellor stated this while receiving a delegation from Mbarara University of Technology, Uganda which was in the University of Jos to explore possible areas of academic research exchanges in the fields of Phytomedicine and Medical Simulation.
Welcoming members of the delegation, Professor Maimako represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Gray Goziem Ejikeme, stressed that partnering with the Mbarara University of Technology, Uganda would mutually benefit both institutions and boost their academic activities.
The Vice Chancellor noted that through exchange programmes, their core mandates of Teaching, Research and Community Service would be better enhanced.
Professor Maimako who had earlier visited the Mbarara University of Technology, Uganda commended the work of its Centre for Excellence in Phytomedicine Research established for the purpose of employing Biotechnology to develop natural herbs for the production of Herbal Medicine.
Vice-Chancellor of the Mbarara University of Technology, Uganda, Professor Celestine Obua who led the delegation, said they were in University of Jos to commence the process of crafting a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate exchange of ideas generated by the University’s Centre of Excellence with University of Jos.
Professor Obua explained that Mbarara University aims to share its experiences with the University of Jos, adding that they were happy to be associated with University through the Centre of Excellence in Phytomedicine Research and Development in the field of Medical Simulation.
According to him, Mbarara University of Technology, Uganda was established Twenty-Nine (29) years ago as a public funded University in Uganda and recently secured Government approval to regulate Traditional Herbal Medicine Practice in Uganda.
Professor Obua revealed that Mbarara University of Technology, Uganda has made great progress in the field of Medical Simulation which is the first of its kind in East Africa. He said the University is growing at great pace and therefore formalizing its relationship with University of Jos through research collaboration would open more doors towards attracting international funding.
Other members of the delegation were the University Secretary, Melchoir Byamhanga; Director of Pharmabiotrac, Dr Casim Umba Tolo; Director, Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer, Dr Santorino Data and Director of the University’s Medical Simulation Centre, Dr Ogwang Patrick Engen.
