A Team from the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria has visited University of Jos for an accreditation exercise.

Stating the reason for the visit, the Team Leader, Town Planner Idris Daudu Suleiman said they were on a Programme Resource Inspection towards the process of accreditation of the Town Planning Programme in the institution.

Suleiman said although the exercise was expected to take place before now in keeping with their custom, some unavoidable hitches caused the delay and noted that the exercise was aimed at ensuring that the University meets up with the legal, professional and academic requirements for the programme to be operational in the institution.

According to Suleiman, certain requirements like staffing, examination conduct, professional curriculum, structures, equipment and other vital facilities were issues the Team would consider in carrying out the exercise.

The Team Leader while assuring that they would be fair in their assessment of the programme, stressed that the exercise was not meant to intimidate the University but rather to strengthen and uphold the minimum standard required for running the programme.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Tanko Ishaya said accreditation is a quality assurance exercise where mistakes and errors are corrected, noting that the exercise gives room for improvement on standard and quality.

Professor Maimako said Students of the University are trained to be Professionals not just for the benefit of Jos or Plateau State alone but to be global players, hence the University will not relent in its quest for academic, professional and infrastructural excellence that would be recognized internationally.
