The Vice Chancellor University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako says the University has intensified efforts to develop high quality teachers to impact the society positively towards nation building. The Vice Chancellor made this known during the Matriculation/Oath Taking ceremony of the Bachelor of Education Part-Time Students of the University held at the University Auditorium by the Law Faculty, Bauchi Road Campus. Professor Maimako who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Tanko Ishaya congratulated the about 370 Students admitted into the Contact One Programme who were matriculated. Professor Maimako charged the matriculating Students to avoid any form of examination misconduct as there are penalties governing such misconduct in the University.
Professor Maimako warned the Students against any form of cultist related activities warning that outright expulsion is the penalty for belonging to a cult while such Students will also be handed over to the Police for prosecution. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University’s Part- Time Education programme is an intensive course, therefore, Students must be focused and determined not to waste their time during the duration of their programme.
The Vice Chancellor appealed to Lecturers on the programme to facilitate adequate coverage of the various curricula and give the Students their best.
Professor Maimako said as aspiring Teachers, they must be computer literate in order to impart better knowledge on their Students and advised them to key into the University ICT policy using digital technologies for online registration, payment of school fees, uploading and checking of results among other services that are being accessed online.
Administering the Matriculation Oath, the Registrar, Chief Monday Danjem who was represented by the Deputy Registrar, Exams and Record, Mr. Nansack Nimchak charged the Students to be law abiding, shun cultism, and acquaint themselves with the Students Information Handbook that will guide and regulate their activities while in the University.
Earlier, University of Jos Director, Institute of Education, Professor Rahila Gowon disclosed that out of 370 Students matriculated, 367 had fully registered while just a few were yet to register. She appealed for a short extension of the registration period to enable those yet to register to do so.
Professor Gowon said the Institute warned that those who refused to pay their Tuition Fees would not be allowed to sit for examinations.
