UNIJOS VC ASSURES OF ENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES IN THE INSTITUTION
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako has said concerted efforts will be made to enhance the security of Staff and Students as well as property of the University.
He stated this while commissioning the Solar Light Project undertaken by Banah Smith Nigeria Limited at various campuses of the University.
Professor Maimako who was accompanied by Principal Staff and other members of the University Community, led them on a tour of the various locations where the Solar Lights were installed to ascertain their effectiveness and expressed satisfaction with the project, acknowledging that it will enhance the University’s Security cover.
The “Working Vice-Chancellor” as he is fondly referred to, reiterated his commitment to ensure that the needs of the University Community especially its Staff and Students are properly catered for within available resources.
Briefing Management before handing over the project for commissioning, representative of the Project Contractors, Banah Smith Nigeria Limited, Yusuf Ibrahim explained that the Solar Light equipment totaling 326 were mounted at strategic locations within the University at the Bauchi Road Campus, Naraguta Campus, Naraguta, Abuja and Students Village Hostels to illuminate the environment during the night. He further explained that the system is programmed to switch-on automatically and power itself at night time.
Mr Ibrahim revealed that the second phase of the project which will be powered by electricity would commence sometime in March 2019 and would be handed over to the University Authority before the end of March 2019.
Also speaking, Acting Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Filibus Danjuma Dami appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and Management for the gesture, stating that the Solar Lights would address some of the challenges faced by the University’s Security Personnel during the night time. He charged the Students to help protect the Solar Lights from the activities of vandals.
In their separate remarks, the President, Students Union Government (SUG) of the University, Comrade Fwanghak Pantu and the Village Hostel Governor, Maxwell Umaru both appreciated the good works of the current University Administration and commended Management for always attending to the Students’ needs whenever they are called upon.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Tanko Ishaya appreciated all who contributed towards making the Project a reality and ensuring that the University maintains high standards that distinguish it from other institutions in the country.
