University of Jos will not relent in its quest to maintain international standards in the drive towards Infrastructural development in the institution.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako stated this during the handing over of two completed projects to the University authorities by the Contractors.
Taking over the Faculty of Engineering Phase 1, Professor Maimako expressed delight with the standard and quality of job done by the Contractor, stressing that the Faculty has met the critical requirements set by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to enable the programmes in the Faculty remain operational. He said his administration remains determined to ensure that all mechanisms are put in place to meet up with the operational requirements laid down by the regulatory agencies.
Professor Maimako while commending the efforts of stakeholders involved in carrying out projects in the institution, called on the end users and security personnel to put hands on deck towards ensuring the structures enjoy a long life span.
Similarly, while taking over the Students’ Lavatories/Toilets near the Sky Bank Hall at the Naraguta Campus, Professor Maimako observed that provision of the facility would help ease the stress of students who roam about in search of conveniences and pleaded that the toilet facility should be properly maintained so that it can serve its purpose.
In their separate remarks, the Project Contractors, Messrs Triactive Builders for the Faculty of Engineering, represented by Architect Shehu Rufai and that of Students’ Lavatories/Toilet, H & M Nigeria Limited, all expressed gratitude to God for giving them the strength to execute the projects while appreciating the University Management for the opportunity to enable them to exhibit their skills and contribute to the development of the institution.
Earlier in a brief remark, Director of Physical Facilities, Architect (Mrs.) Halima Auta said the Phase 1 of the Faculty of Engineering which comprises of 4 Departments was awarded through the 2015/2016 TETfund Intervention on 19th of January 2018 and was handed over to the Contractor on 22nd of February 2018, and was expected to be completed in April 2019. The project was however completed behind schedule due to some unexpected hiccups.
Architect Auta further explained that the Students' Lavatories/Toilets were awarded in 2018 through the 2017 TETfund Zonal Intervention to construct and rehabilitate some toilets in the institution.
Dean of the beneficiary Unit, the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Stephen Mallo, appreciated Management and the Contractor for uplifting the Faculty’s status, adding that the construction of the new building complex will address many challenges faced by them.
Also speaking, officials of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the University represented by the Vice-President, Catherine Fyaklek and the Financial Secretary, Tatmang Emmanuel, all appreciated the University authorities for making the environment conducive for learning.
