Alumni of the University of Jos say they will continue to contribute both financially and materially towards the infrastructural and academic development of the University. This, according to them, is because of the excellent relationship existing between the University Alumni and the institution’s present Management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako.
In a congratulatory message to the Vice-Chancellor over the marking of his 4th Anniversary in office, President, University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA) Worldwide, Alhaji Idris Yakubu assured that Alumni, both as individuals and as groups, will always support the University in different areas of need to enable the institution attain greater heights.
The Alumni Association President, who is also a member of the University’s Governing Council, described the growth and developmental strides under the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor as unprecedented and clearly noticeable in virtually all areas of the University’s activities.
He cited the movement to the University’s Permanent Site at the Naraguta Campus, rehabilitation and modernization of the burnt Library Complex, construction and completion of the Faculties of Engineering, Management Sciences and Social Sciences, installation of Street Lights at the various campuses, building and the renovation of the various Hostels among others, as projects that are worthy of mention. He also lauded JAMB’s high rating of the University’s Admission process, the NUC’s Accreditation of most of the University’s Academic Programmes, and the Administration’s commitment to Staff and Students welfare which has all led to the creation of a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research, as achievements worthy of celebration.
Alhaji Idris, who was until recently, the MD/CEO of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the Administration’s support for the Unijos Alumni Centre project being built in the University’s Naraguta Campus which is expected to be a multi-purpose facility that will serve as the Secretariat, Recreation spot and Clearing House for all Alumni-related activities. He disclosed that although construction work had fully commenced on the project site, the COVID-19 situation stalled its progress, but assured that with the gradual easing of the lockdown, work is slowly resuming on the site towards quicker achievement of the agreed milestones.
Alhaji Idris thanked and commended the many Alumni who have contributed towards the project’s actualization through donation of funds and building materials, and called on others who have not, to key into the vision and make a contribution today.
For him, the Alumni community will intensify its support for the University’s academic and physical development objectives throughout the tenure of Professor Maimako whom he described as a distinguished Great Josite and a proud Alumnus of Unijos, as well as all other Vice-Chancellors that will come after him.
